Questions & Answers

Luxembourg American Cultural Center Q & A

Question:  Why are we building the Luxembourg American Cultural Center?
Answer:  The mission of the Luxembourg American Cultural Center is two-fold:  to preserve the rich heritage of Luxembourg in America and to continue to foster relationships between Luxembourgers and Americans.

Question:  Is the Luxembourg American Cultural Center only about the past?
Answer: While the Luxembourg American Cultural Center will portray immigration and the history of Luxembourg and Luxembourg settlements in America, it will also portray Luxembourg as an industrial/technological leader today along with being a place to promote trade, commerce, and tourism between America and Luxembourg.  It will also highlight present contributions to American life by those of Luxembourg heritage.

Question:  Is the LACC going to be built all at once?
Answer:  The LACC will be built in two phases.  Phase One includes the Roots and Leaves Museum, Wëllkomm Centre, Cultural Society Offices, Museum Store, Luxembourg Garden and Luxembourg Courtyard.  Phase Two will include a large Community & Conference Center along with a state-of-the-art Research Center facility.

Question:  How much is each phase of the LACC going to cost?
Answer:  The total cost of Phase One and Two of the LACC is projected to be $6.5 million.  Phase One of the LACC is estimated to cost $2,300,000 .  Phase Two of the LACC is estimated to cost $4,200,000.

Question:  How much has Luxembourg’s Ministry of Culture donated to the project and what is the money being used for?
Answer:  Luxembourg’s Ministry of Culture has generously donated 400,000 Euros (approximately $500,000 US) to the Cultural Center project.  The in-kind donation is being used to fund the building of all of the interior displays and exhibits for the LACC museum.  These items are being fabricated in Luxembourg under the Ministry of Culture’s direction.

Question: How much money has to be raised in a capital campaign to build the LACC?
Answer:  The goal of our Roots & Leaves Capital Campaign is $1,300,000.  This goal will be achieved through cash donations/pledges, memberships in the LACS and in-kind donations, memorials adn bequests to the building project.

Question:  Are the Cultural Society and Cultural Center for-profit or not-for-profit entities?
Answer:  The LACS and LACC are NOT-FOR-PROFIT entities.  The LACS is a 501(c)(3) corporation and the “umbrella” over the LACC.  Thus donations to the LACS and the LACC are tax-deductible.

Question:  What connection will the Luxembourg American Cultural Center have with the New Luxembourg Development?
Answer:  The LACC will be located within the New Luxembourg Development but it will be a separate entity from the rest of the development.  The LACC is not-for-profit while the development is a for-profit, private development.  Being a part of this development will benefit the LACC in a variety of ways including tourism, tax increment, etc.

Question:  Who is funding the building and operation of the LACC?
Answer:  All funding for the LACC comes from private benefactors.  The LACS and LACC receive no county, state or federal funding.  The LACS and LACC survive only through the generous donations of individuals, families, corporations, grants and bequests.
